Our client is a leader in the global research laboratory industry with worldwide sales in excess of $3 billion US dollars. Their business is highly diversified across products and services, geographic regions and customer segments. The company offers products from a wide range of manufacturers, to a large number of customers primarily in Canada, United States, Europe and other locations. Their principal customers are major pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, technology, clinical, food processing and consumer product companies, universities and research institutes, governmental agencies, environmental testing organizations, and primary and secondary schools.

They distribute a diversified product mix, including chemicals, glassware and plasticware, equipment and instruments, furniture, protective apparel, production and safety products, and other life science and laboratory products and supplies. The company supports its customers by providing storeroom management, product procurement, supply chain systems integration, technical services and laboratory bench top delivery. They maintain operations in over 20 countries and employ over 6,000 people worldwide. Their Canadian head office is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

They are currently looking for a 14-month Contract Customs Specialist in our Mississauga Office.




- Ensure that the company's business systems (purchasing, receiving, accounts payable)
  provide accurate data for import shipments

- Maintain appropriate internal controls and audit trails for the receipt, adjustment and
  payment of shipments

- Familiar with Customs Self Assessment, FAST and PIP issues and regulations

- Ensure the US based suppliers adhere to CRA/CBSA processes and procedures

- Review vendor invoices ensuring compliance with CRA legislation

- Coordinate the request for vendor Certificates Of Origin and the processing
  of C.O.O.s from customers

- Process National Customs Rulings and maintain required records

- Preparation of adjusting entries; ensure amendments followed up

- Ensure that customs broker is maintaining accurate data on HS tariffs and that tariff items
  and duty rates are are included in company database

- Processing of 'X' type entries for the CSA program

- 1/3 of the movements are bulk commodities; two thirds prepackaged

- Some Ocean Import shipments

- Re-exporting of returns to the United States

- Single and multi-line B3 entries

- Prepare necessary documentation in support of year-end audit

- Daily Preparation of Adjustments (X-type) and appeal or cancellation of
  Detailed Adjustment Statements



- CCS Designation or PLCB preferred; in-depth experience in Customs Brokerage in Canada

- 3 to 5 years + of Customs Brokerage Consulting experience in Trade and Regulatory matters
  involving AMPS, Valuations, Audits, Classifications, C-TPAT and other initiatives/programs

- Organized, self-motivated, high-energy and focused on the future

Detail-conscious, excellent relations with CRA/CBSA officials
