Our client is a very well-established customs broker and logistics provider
located in Southwestern Ontario.
They have a need to hire a strong customs person for a leadership position. They
are focused on hiring
a person with a CCS designation, 4-7 years customs brokerage experience, ideally
in rating, releasing,
tariffs and customer service who can coach, guide, mentor and train people with
patience and maturity.
You are looking for the opportunity to help others understand what is required
to know to serve importers
and exporters effectively. You have great communications skills and the
technical knowledge of customs which
makes you a well-rounded candidate. You like to be involved and lead though
setting a positive example.

To supervise data entry, release clerks and raters within your Transaction
Processing Team or Department to ensure timely release of freight and entry
confirmation. Give guidance to the staff to do their job efficiently and
accurately. To deal with clients professionally and ensure the best possible
service.
- Performs quality functions to ensure staff (data entry, release, raters)
complete transactions accurately for accounting. 40%
- Rating transactions, contacting clients and vendors for additional
information. 30%
- Give guidance to release, raters and data entry staff members on complex
problems. 10%
- Database maintenance (vendor, item, rate code, NAFTA), and trade compliance
functions including database audits.
- Various other tasks assigned by Manager. 8%
- Answer inquiries from clients regarding release of their shipments and trade
compliance.
- Monitor clients shipping processes (flow of paperwork, paperwork requirements)
to ensure compliance and expedited releases.
- Perform some client service tasks and visit clients when necessary. 5%
- Assist Manager with staff performance appraisals, work and vacation and
statutory holiday schedules.
- Schedule regular team meetings as well as attend departmental meetings.
Prepare attendance form on a bi-weekly basis 5%
- Liaise with Consulting department regarding status of NAFTA certificates for
clients. 2%
- Daily rating and quality control of time sensitive entries, dealing with staff
on complex issues.
- May accompany Sales on calls to potential clients or, visits with Client
Service to existing clients.

- You must have a Grade 12 High School education and have the Certified Customs
Specialist designation.
- A minimum of five years of Customs Brokerage experience and the ability or
strong potential to supervise
and communicate effectively with people.
- Strong technical knowledge of Rating, Releasing, Tariffs and related
documentation
- Organized, proactive, dedicated to providing excellence of service to
customers
- A proven ability to juggle multiple taks and changing priorities
