This position, reporting to the Production Manager, is responsible for planning and directing the day-to-day fleet operations to guide the company in achieving business goals and objectives. You will lead by example and provide strategic input and direction for the trucking division and assist in building an effective and efficient trucking division. You are experienced in a unionized environment and have excellent leadership and conflict-resolution skills, fair and approachable. - Supervise all company truck-drivers in their daily activities, and in conjunction with the Production Manager handle any
  safety   issues, personal injuries, accidents, issues relating to the MTO, personnel matters and disciplinary actions.

- Plan, schedule, review and modify outbound and return load transportation activities on a daily basis, and engage in
  professional communication with other departments to provide the necessary transportation support to achieve the
  Company’s goal of providing superior customer service.

- Maximize the load capacity of equipment used through careful load planning, according to customer needs
  and delivery schedule priorities.

- Oversee and direct the dispatch function.

- Coordinate the fleet requirements for other divisions as necessary.

- Engage in daily, weekly and long-term manpower planning in conjunction with the Production Manager.

- Provide direction in the development and design of the trucking division, implement ongoing improvements to the fleet,
  and examine and establish cost reduction strategies in all areas relating to transportation, to achieve maximum operational
  efficiency and performance.

- Develop, maintain, communicate and enforce, Company rules, policies, regulations, expectations and procedures as outlined
  in the Driver’s Handbook and in accordance with the MTO guidelines, and provide any necessary instruction or training for
  drivers as needed to meet these expectations and regulations.

- Provide fair, balanced and hands-on leadership in resolving employee issues as they arise

- Develop the appropriate performance measures in the trucking division to ensure operation efficiencies on an ongoing basis.

- Visit customer’s facilities and job sites as required to understand their needs for receiving our goods, and to form a basis of
  knowledge for optimum load scheduling efficiency.

- Respond promptly to customer supply issues by performing driving duties when necessary.

- Develop audit procedures for both internal and external review.

- Maintain the fleet certification and maintenance programs to ensure compliance with the regulatory bodies and health
 & safety standards.

- Develop a Driver Evaluation Program that can effectively measure and rank the skills and abilities of drivers, and provide the
  basis for assessing required improvements. Conduct an annual evaluation review for each driver. Discuss and decide any
  course of action in conjunction with the Production Manager, and maintain the reviews in the driver’s personnel file.

- Other duties as assigned.



- 5-10 years management experience in a unionized environment

- Thorough knowledge of the MTO regulations and guidelines

- Customs / cross-border procedures experience

- AZ license would be considered an asset

- Advanced Supervisory training and education
