Our client has a career growth opportunity for an experienced international
freight forwarding supervisor
who has a minimum of 3-5 years of international freight forwarding in Calgary in
general freight and projects.
The following guidelines outline the responsibilities of the position titled
above. Management reserves the right
to modify any of the duties and responsibilities at any time. Any such changes
must fall within the individuals
capabilities within this position and if necessary appropriate training will be
provided to accomplish the new
duties and responsibilities.

Overview:
Supervision of operations staff and actual handling of shipments including
Project related shipments.
Familiar with freight and Customs procedures
Deal with overseas agents and other company offices on a regular basis. Have a
passion for customer service
that excels that of their competitors
Solid understanding of Letters of Credit and Project forwarding
Have an eye for detail, and compliance to all Customs and overseas rules and
regulations and shipping instructions
Negotiation skills with vendors.
Actively participate In the firm's air cargo security program
Key Responsibilities and duties:
- Supervision and motivation of staff
- Operational duties on a daily basis
- Become familiar with the Computer System in all departments to enable
staff to maximize its benefits
- Ensure that the customers and agents requirements are surpassed and not just
met.
- Liaise with vendors for all third party activities including: warehousing,
cartage, airlines, NVOCC’s and steamship lines, to ensure best service
and pricing.
- Follow up to ensure that freight departs and arrives as scheduled and customer
satisfaction is maintained
- Communicate with overseas agents and branches to ensure that they are informed
of all appropriate transactions
- Ensure that if cargo is Dangerous or Hazardous Cargo that agent handling
shipment is qualified and that strict
guidelines for carriage are followed.
- Check staff’s files and/or Invoice shipment in a timely manner including
receivables and payables.
- Check for Export Permit requirements and any other ‘special documents’ that
may be required on exports or imports
- Handling Letters of Credit and Project Exports/Imports

Skills: Air and Ocean freight experience in producing documentation and
communication with overseas agents,
airlines and shipping companies. Supervising operations staff and distributing
workloads and enhancing team-spirit
Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in international
freight forwarding, with Project related
background in Alberta.
Ability to Multi-task, supervise and be willing to take on shipments from start
to finish and met the goals this position entails,
Ability to problem solve and resolve any conflicts with third parties
Good understanding of the industry and a willingness to expand upon that
knowledge
Education: High School Minimum / College Graduate for transportation and or
International Business
CIFFA Part 1 and 2. preferred
IATA and IMO Dangerous goods qualifications preferred
