Trade Compliance Specialist - Automotive - Vaughan, ON - exclusive representation

Trade Compliance Functions
Responsibilities Overview (detailed job description will be provided)

• Creation and maintenance of Company Trade Compliance manual for acceptance from both Canadian and U.S. Customs agencies
• Trade Compliance related work instructions/SOPs for import/export operations, inter-department ties and dependencies
• Trade Compliance flowcharts for import/export operations
• Import/export shipment documentation examples
• Creation and maintenance of part master (COO, FTA, HTS (US, CA, MX), new part identification, etc.)
• Regular maintenance of the GSS systems for Trade Compliance related data
• Work with team identifying new/changed part numbers for classification and supplier solicitation purposes,
  support FTA document collection from vendors data feed from GSS into Integration Point, advise if contact from any Customs agency
  has been made with Company
• Direct response to the given Customs agency should only be done if advised to do so by the Trade Compliance manager
• Post entry audit internal controls and processing
• Investigate system identified exceptions
• Work within the team to develop potential resolutions
• Confirm all corrective actions through Trade Compliance manager prior to any resolutions being completed
• Act as Company’s Trade Compliance contact and work directly with and through the Trade Compliance manager
• Work with Managers to make sure Quotes and POs include all the key international shipment information:
  lncoterms, Importer information, ultimate consignee full information, southern border freight forwarder/broker information, etc.
• Work with Company 3rd party mold/tool builders for complete NAFTA eligibility BOMs and NAFTA certificates by Job #
• Work with Company import/export brokers (CA and US)
• Data mining, Classification review for accuracy
• Work with broker(s) for necessary corrections
• All corresponding shipment documentation (including any emails, etc.) filed by shipment
• All export related approvals and transaction numbers by export shipment from Canada and US
• All Company signed documentation must have a supporting fully costed MBOM
• Border crossing import documentation when Company is IOR needs to be included in this paperwork


• Minimum completion of an Associate's Degree, Bachelors (preferred)
• Customs Broker's License, CCS or CTCS preferred
• Some Technical knowledge of Customs Regulations and Tracie Program Requirements
• Basic understanding of Customs Compliance Requirements (Canada and U.S.)
• Basic understanding of Mexican Customs and Regulation Requirements, preferred


• 3 - 5 years Customs experience Canada, U.S. (both preferred)
• 3 - 5 years Transportation/Distribution experience
• 3 - 5 years Customs brokerage/consultant experience
• 3 - 5 years strong Classification experience
• 3 - 5 years strong FTA/NAFTA Solicitation, Qualification, Customer Responses experience
• 3 - 5 years practical experience with various FTAs for Canada, U.S. (both preferred}


• Some Financial/Accounting experience
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Persuasive, tactful, and articulate
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Self-motivated, flexible, detail oriented and able to meet tight deadlines
• Strong investigation and problem solving skills
• Team oriented work ethic
• Strong Microsoft application skills in Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
• Various ERP and Integration Point computer skills
• Fluent in Spanish, preferred but not essential
